Why is sleep so important?
Restorative sleep is not only bliss—it is crucial to living a healthy, happy and productive life. Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental and physical health, quality of life and safety.
Sleep helps your brain work properly. While you are sleeping, your brain is preparing for the next day. It is forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information. Studies show that a good night’s sleep improves learning and problem-solving skills. Sleep also helps you pay attention, make decisions, and be creative.
Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to many life threatening diseases. It can impact on healthy growth and development and poor sleep can seriously compromise your immune system.

What key factors impact on our ability to sleep well?
Environmental conditions, such as temperature, noise, light, bed comfort and electronic distractions, play a significant role in one’s ability to get proper sleep—and, subsequently, in overall sleep-related wellness.
What can we do to ensure that we have a great night’s sleep?
There are plenty of ways to get a good night’s sleep. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day is probably the most important. Another trick is to use the bed only for sleep. Here are few more tips:
- Exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day, but not too close to bedtime (a few hours give enough of a buffer).
- Avoid caffeine late in the day and alcoholic drinks before bed.
- Relax before bed–try a warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine, but ideally one that doesn’t require screen time.
- Keep lights and sounds low, and the temperature cool (about 16 – 18 degrees). Turn off all electronics, including the TV.
- Make your bed an inviting place to be. Buy comfortable, cool bedding including sheets, covers, pillows and duvets
- Don’t lie in bed awake. If you can’t get to sleep, do something else, like reading, until you feel tired.
How can Mediterranean Linens help you get a good night’s sleep?
Bed linen made from 100% Egyptian cotton has the reputation for being the finest, coolest cotton in the world. Woven from single ply long staple yarns, Egyptian cotton provides the softest, lightest, breathable sheeting. It’s a great choice for ‘hot sleepers’ because it wicks away moisture from the body, which in turn helps to regulate body temperature.
Egyptian cotton’s fine yarns also offer superior comfort and softness. Bedding made from this cotton will feel light and silky against the skin and unlike most bed linen will soften each time you wash it, becoming more comfortable to sleep in the more you use it. And despite being incredibly soft, Egyptian cotton is stronger and more durable than regular cotton.
And with Mediterranean Linens – buying the best doesn’t cost the earth. Biodegradable, totally recyclable, our bedlinen is an eco friendly choice and offers amazing value for money. From simple 200 thread count plain dyes to ultra luxurious, 600 thread count hotel quality sheeting, Mediterranean Linens provides a choice of styles and colours to suit everyone’s budget.
